S/S Ivernia - ship that Helmer Nelson traveled on when coming to the United States in 1908
Built by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Limited, Newcastle, England, 1900. 13,799 gross tons; 600 (bp) feet long; 64 feet wide. Steam quadruple expansion engines, twin screw. Service speed 15 knots. 1,960 passengers (160 first class, 200 second class, 1,600 third class). One funnel and four masts.
Built for Cunard Line, British flag, in 1900 and named Ivernia. Liverpool-New York service. Later Liverpool-Boston and Trieste-New York services. Torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine in 1917
